Steinberg first collaborated with pianist Aron Kallay and his cutting-edge sextet Brightwork newmusic last spring during the Hear Now Music Festival in Los Angeles. The two were inspired to put together an entire evening of chamber music. Aron suggested Kaleidoscope, a masterwork by Los Angeles veteran composer William Kraft, and Steinberg enticed Sierra Ensemble from the Bay Area to perform his four movement Horn Trio, fresh from their recent World Premiere in San Francisco.
Also on the program are two talented young violinists from the Los Angeles Youth Orchestra who perform Steinberg’s Six Violin Duos that bring an “orchestra of sound” to just two instruments. Alisa Luera was concertmaster in the orchestra last season and is now a violin performance major at Cal State University at Northridge. Clara Ross recently participated at the Tanglewood Summer Music Festival and is currently a first violinist in the LA Youth Orchestra.
